Richard and I as members of the Vivod Shoot always felt we were regularly outshone by the better shots until we came up with the solution . So first drive of the day as I missed yet another bird , Richard would bellow “ great shot Martin “ . This would be repeated several times during the drive at the end of which other guns would congratulate me despite the lack of birds on the ground. The next drive it was my turn to applaud Richard . It worked every time !
Our partnership playing holiday golf was a triumph for Richard but not for me ! Richard would always present himself as the Arnold Palmer of our time and insist on instructing me every time I played a shot. This ruse without fail always goaded me into playing and missing or at best into losing yet another ball. Richard would be doubled up with laughter and still chortling as he commenced advising me on my next shot.
